Anxiety

Anxiety is a general term for several disorders that cause nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worrying. These disorders affect how we feel and behave, and they can manifest real physical symptoms.

Depression

Depression is not simply a temporary change in mood or a sign of weakness. It is a real medical condition with many emotional, physical, behavioural and cognitive symptoms.

Substance Abuse

People abuse substances such as drugs, alcohol, and tobacco for varied and complicated reasons. Abused substances produce some form of intoxication that alters judgment, perception, attention, or physical control.

Trauma

Trauma is the lasting emotional response that often results from living through a distressing event. Experiencing a traumatic event can harm a person’s sense of safety, sense of self, and ability to regulate emotions and navigate relationships.

Stress

Stress has become the number one malady of our time. The constant pressure associated with living in a fast-paced world has created an environment where nearly everyone feels the effects of stress.

Post Partum

Postpartum depression is a type of clinical depression that can affect women after childbirth. Symptoms may include feelings of sadness or guilt, low energy, severe mood swings, reduced desire for sex, crying episodes, and excessive irritability. These symptoms extend beyond what is considered to be a “normal adjustment” to having a life with a newborn.

Personal Growth

Sometimes, in life, we experience times of challenge, times when we question our abilities, or times when we “out grow” our current tools for coping. Self exploration is essential at all points in our lives. It helps us to develop new skills, change or alter relationships, step outside our proverbial comfort zones, or sometimes leads…

ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a common behavioral disorder that affects about both school-age children, as well as adults. Symptoms can include impulsive behaviours, hyperactivity, and difficulties with concentration.

Individuals often seek therapy when they are in need of support, change, and a new perspective. Also, individuals typically come for psychological support when something in their life just isn't "working anymore". Research indicates that the majority of individuals benefit from therapy, more specifically with evidenced-based therapeutic interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Behavioral Therapy.

In addition, specific treatment for trauma-focused therapy will include mindfulness, meditation, and learning how the brain and body are impacted from trauma.

Goals for the therapy and a treatment plan will  be established typically within the first session, perhaps two. The course and duration of treatment will be different for everyone who access psychological services because each individual comes with a different set of struggles, strengths, and supports.
